Sigalit Landau

Sigalit Landau was born in Jerusalem, Israel in 1969, and studied at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem between 1990 to 1995. During this time she also participated in a one-semester student exchange program at the Cooper Union School of Art and Design, New York. After several years in London, she settled in Tel Aviv, Israel, where she currently lives and works.Landau works with a diverse range of media – including drawing, sculpture, video and performance– creating works and installations which sometimes stand on their own and sometimes form complete, inclusive environments. Her complex works touch on a number of social, humanitarian, and ecological issues, embracing topics such as homelessness, banish- ment, and the relationships between victim and victimizer and between decay and growth. As much of her work is concerned with the human condition, the figure (often her own) is a key motif. Using salt, sugar, paper and ready-made objects, Landau creates large-scale in site in- stallations, which totally change the spaces she works in. Landau has represented Israel in the Venice International Art Biennial in 1997 and 2011, and participated in numerous internation- al exhibitions among them Documenta X, Kassel, 1997 and the Armory Show, New York, 2005
