HOLOMAKERS

Technology and a qualified workforce in STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) are considered catalysts for innovation and economic growth in Europe. However, more efficient actions are required to motivate students to choose educational and professional careers in this sector.

Holomakers, implemented as part of the Erasmus+ Programme, will involve high school students in STEM subjects through new educational methodologies for teaching sciences and involving holograms, virtual images and design. Moreover, the project will also involve teachers and educators in professional updating courses to provide them with a greater awareness and understanding of scientific subjects.

The project employs art as a magnifying glass to observe, decipher and learn STEMsubjects. The process of hologram construction will be used as a creative tool to build a bridge between research and schools and allow students to learn about laboratory practises.

The course, which address high school students (aged 14-17), is organised into two phases:

  • Basis of Holography – students learn to design computer- and analogically generated holograms and familiarise with the basics of image elaboration;
  • Creation of Holograms with technological tools typically used for digital manufacturing and development of rational thinking.

Project Holomakers will focus on reinforcing the professional competences of professors and changing their pedagogic outlook to design innovative and interactive learning experiences and how to approach the study of STEM subjects with creativity. Another innovative aspect of the project is the launch of portable kits for the development of formal curriculum labs and non-formal learning experiences.

The project is enriched through the collaboration with makers and digital artists who already collaborate with the Phyrtual Innovation Gym and the Media Art Festival: the best projects that employ a creative use to technology will have the opportunity to participate in the annual exhibition at the Maxxi.

Young makes and digital artists interested in collaborating with the project will be able to enjoy educational activities abroad, course and use of digital manufacturing tools and the practical experience of STEAM education in collaboration with professionals already at work with partner organisations.
